Roqueta Barrel Selection Tempranillo 2009

By | September 4, 2010

We had a bottle of this assuming it to be a standard Spanish cheapie from Laithwaites for a standard evening watching England play in a standard kinda disappointing way. England were a little better than we had anticipated, the wine quite a bit better.
It’s thick and chewy and tastes warm if that’s a thing that wine can do, it’s fruity to with cherries and blackberries.
It turns out they threw in some Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon too which may have added a bit of extra spice and mouth feel. It certainly added to a more interesting favour that seemed to move through spicy to fruity to jammy in a rather nice journey.
At under £6 a bottle it’s a bargain, better than a lot of Rioja’s costing 50% more.
