We were backing up a little on sweet wines. Domaine Cristia Muscat de Beaumes de Venise from Naked Wines is billed as perfect summer drinking, but my preferred choice for sweet wines is slow sipping on a freezing cold snowy day whilst I’m wrapped up in a blankie reading a book and the only cold thing is the wine.
As it had summer credentials I tried some. It’s certainly sweet and has some florality and honey, and perhaps unsurprisingly, grape flavour. There was a squish of peaches too. It had quite a low level of acid, so the sweetness somehow sat on top of the flavours rather than with them. I added it to some peaches, sadly they were under-ripe but they did have more acid than a peach should, but they didn’t integrate really well either.
Whilst there is something good about this wine, it doesn’t hold together well enough and there’s better choices out there for the money.
