Greedy Sheep Cabernet Merlot 2007

By | November 15, 2009

I sometimes can’t help myself from buying wines based on their names. It may not be big, it may not be clever, but if I’m visiting Steve and see a wine called Steve’s Ridge, I’ll buy it. I chose Greedy Sheep as the perfect wine to go with Agricola, one of my favourite games based around being a medieval farmer in central Europe.
I have learned not to have high expectations of these purchases. Greedy Sheep was a rich dark purple, with strong legs. It smelled spicy in an almost Christmas pudding style, yet with an earthy saltiness too. It wasn’t quite dry, and it had medium acid, with soft, ripe tannins. It had a lot of fruit, plums and blackcurrants fought it out with a bit of dark chocolate acting as referee.
At £10, this wine is a bit overpriced, but with the complication of 33% cashback, £7 is good value.
