It’s cold outside and time for warming wines and fun board games. We had a bottle of The Old Telegraph Malbec Shiraz Oak-Aged Reserve 2007 from Laithwaites, with a game of Le Havre .
It was a warm, deep purple-garnet colour, smelling of oak, toasty vanilla oak which felt warm, helped by a spot of cinnamon. That sweet oak flowed into the flavour, but more fruitiness came through too, ripe cooked blackberries which along with the cinnamon and vanilla made it taste a bit like a berry crumble. The alcohol at 13.5% also helped to keep the warm feeling.
It was pretty good value for about £7, not outstanding but certainly one I’d try again.
