Ocaso Syrah 2006

We had a bottle of Ocaso Syrah with a game of Caylus.  It was good.  The wine was a medium garnet, perhaps a little paler than I’d expect.
It smelled of ripe fruit, and tasted of black fruits, it almost had the texture of fruit too, it felt strangely like blackberry flesh. Odd.
It was perhaps more on the fruity side than the spicy side of Syrah, which isn’t a complaint, just an observation. 13.5% alcohol is about right for this wine, keeping it warm but not dominating.
At £8.50 a bottle from Naked Wines it’s OK, I’ve had better Syrahs at the price, and I suspect for that money I’d want something with more of a Rhone like character.
