Gran Tarapaca Petit Verdot Syrah Reservado

I went to see the Spice Girls recently. It was a hoot. I can’t tell you if their singing was any good, I was drowning them out with my own questionable vocals. If they’re coming to a town near you it’s well worth the trip back to the nineties.
Other fun packed evenings over the holidays included eating and drinking a lot. We had some wonderful cheeses with a Gran Tarapaca Petit Verdot/ Syrah Reservado 2005 from Chile. It was an astoundingly deep, almost opaque, purple.
It smelled spicy with lots of rich oak. Full bodied, the rich vanilla from the oak combined with malolactic frementation to add a dairy creaminess which balanced out the jammy black fruits. It went really well with the cheese and biscuits we ate as we chatted.
This one came from the nice folk at Laithwaites.
