This Alamos Malbec from Majestic Wine was a deep purple colour with good legs. Medium bodied, medium alcohol and medium acid might put it in the ‘meh’ category, but the flavour of cooked blackberries and dried fruits lifted it above average.
Its a good choice for a midweek wine, and works well as a party option, provided you send people outdoors to drink it, or keep them away from sensitive floor coverings.
The list price is £9, but I’ve generally paid £7-8, only buying when it is on sale. It’s good, but not good enough to justify paying full retail.
