We’ve had a burst of warm weather, unusual for the UK in April and May, but it came to an end this week, giving me an opportunity to dip back into the ‘winter warmers’ selection of wines. Mas de Valbrune Dans Les Bois from Aldeby Wines is a bit of an oddity, a Cabernet Sauvignon varietal from Languedoc in France.
It’s a rich deep purple colour, that just emits warmth. It has good legs and smells of juicy black fruits topped with black pepper. With ripe tannins and a full mouth feel, the blackcurranty fruit tastes great, but avoids being overwhelming with a reasonable alcohol level and balancing spice.
Summer is great, but I do miss wines like this enjoyed whist snuggled up under a blankie.
