Octopus Cove Sauvignon Blanc 2009

So the biggest hit of this year’s World Cup is Paul the Psychic Octopus. He’s gained more admiring column inches in the press than the pre-tournament favourites of Rooney and Ronaldo combined.
We decided to celebrate his success with Octopus Cove Sauvignon Blanc from Naked Wines, resisting the temptation to search for some squid recipes to go with it.
It was pale lemon and smelled fresh and young with under ripe gooseberries and some sharp green apple. It was dry with a medium high acidity, a medium light body and flavour intensity. That flavour was of gooseberries and apples, it was drinkable, but just a little forgettable.
Paul’s fame will last longer than this flavour.
