We had a bottle of this Domaine de Rieussec La Croix Deltort Gentilhommière from Aldeby Wines on the last dark evening of the year, a sort of cheerio to winter. It was certainly dark, leaving thick purple legs on the glass.
It smelled of olive oil, good olive oil with dark autumn fruits. That’s not a recipe I’d try at home, but it certainly smelled attractive.
It had a thick, full flavour with the oily fruit being augmented by spices and some herbilciousness. It felt warming, and went down smoothly, the flavour lasting well. I’m excited to be entering spring with all its possibilities, but I’ll miss good winter wines like this one.
