We had a mini celebration this week, which required a mini-celebration wine. I was despatched to root around and find the perfect wine. I don’t do well under that kind of pressure. It wasn’t a fizzy situation, but I had no red/white bias to guide me. I wanted to make a good choice, not a flashy one, but something reliably good. I was relieved to spot a distinctive BBR bottle closure foil, and extra pleased to see it was an ‘extra’ ordinary bottle.
My choice was well received. The wine looked good, rich and deep in colour, with good legs. It smelled good with crushed plums and blackcurrants. It tasted good with oodles of rich thick fruity fruit. Yes I know all fruit can be described as fruity but this stuff was sweet and juicy whilst being dry and steely. That’s quite a task.
At just £12 a bottle it’s an absolute steal. They’re selling the last few bottles now, with the 2005 taking over. I can’t wait to try that.
