I have to admit I’m not a big Beaujolais Nouveau fan, I’m happy to let it settle down over the winter, but this year my brother in law was working France and driving back through Beaujolais on Thursday. He stopped to pick some up for me. Being a well trained relative he also picked up half a case of reasonably priced random supermarket choices for me, which were:
2 Bordeaux – a Margaux and a generic Grand Vin
1 Burgundy – Cote de Beaune
1 Chateauneuf du Pape
He’d opted for the technique of choosing the Auchan recommendations at around the E7-12 mark. It looks like it was quite a smart strategy. We celebrated my good fortune with a glass or two of JP Chenet Blanc de Blancs which sparkled its way from the E2 a bottle aisle. It wasn’t kidding anyone that it was a fine wine, but it was fabulous value for mixing with fruit juice for light Christmas cocktails. Added to some gently poached cucumber and oysters just before serving it makes for a delightful soup!
I’ll try the Beaujolais over the weekend.
