Wine Porn

I was in London today, and found myself at Christie’s HQ in King’s Street. It is undergoing a major refurbishment front of house so there’s no space for art and no space in reception. That meant mooching about and I was drawn to the wine sale catalogue.

It’s a nice piece of art in its own right with fabulously indulgent pictures of old bottles of wine highlighting the label damage, raised corks or wine levels around the shoulder. What’s really wonderful about it is the descriptions, particularly those from Michael Broadbent who can flick through 50+ years of his tasting notes to give a picture of how the wines for sale have developed and their future drinking potential.

If you have a few grand to spare, the next serious wine sale in London is September 20, or you can pop along to Rockerfeller Plaza on Saturday.
