So here’s to South Africa. We had bottle of Inanda Gold Sparkling to wish them well, and commiserate with England’s dismal performance. I’d never had a sparkling wine from South Africa before and was pleasantly surprised.
The bubbles are small and persistent, forming a mousse that sticks around. It smells yeasty, making for a pleasant marmite on toast combo. It’s off dry with a creamy bubbliness. There’s lemon on the palate which works well with the marmite.
I enjoyed the Inanda more than the cricket today, and now I have to face the fact that I’ll be drinking Jacob’s Creek after the final.
