Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi

By | October 16, 2006

A bottle of Italian wine tonight, this one bought for the bottle more often than the contents. It’s a Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi, often known as la Lollobrigida as it’s claimed the bottle’s shape is based on Gina’s.
This bottle is a Croce Del Moro Classico from Majestic.

It’s clear and pale, with a zippy nose of fresh apples and lemons. It’s dry with a mineral acidity.

The fresh fruit carries through with just a hint of bitterness. It’s light and fresh and at 12% quite drinkable, although it’s better with food, like light pasta and shellfish dishes.

At around a fiver it’s good value and quite fun for a change, but it’s unlikely to make it onto my list of all time favourites.

Verdicchio is not a wine for everyone but is one of my favorites. Perfect with fish and Tartufo.
